Professor Charles Raab

Professor Charles Raab is Professorial Fellow, School of Social and Political Science, University of Edinburgh. His research primarily focuses on privacy, data protection, surveillance, resilience, regulation, ‘smart’ environments, identification, security, democracy, and data ethics. Raab’s publications include The Governance of Privacy (2003, 2006); Protecting Information Privacy (2011); A Report on the Surveillance Society (2006); Video Surveillance (2012); Policing the European Union (1995); and many articles and reports. He is a Co-Director for the Centre for Research into Information, Surveillance and Privacy (CRISP); Fellow at the Alan Turing Institute (ATI);and Member of the ATI Data Ethics Group, Biometrics and Forensics Ethics Group (UK Home Office), National Digital Ethics Expert Group (Scottish Government), and Digital Identity Scotland Expert Group (Scottish Government), amidst many other involvements.
