Prof David Murakami Wood is Canada Research Chair in Surveillance Studies at the Surveillance Studies Centre, and Associate Professor in the Sociology Department at Queen’s University, cross-appointed in the Department of Geography. Prof Wood is an interdisciplinary scholar of cities, security and surveillance, who works across Surveillance Studies, Urban Studies, Human Geography and Sociology. His current research project, Ubicity, is funded by an Insight Grant from the Canadian Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) and looks at the security and surveillance aspects of ‘smart city’ projects. His current work focuses on smartness, urban governance and the emergence of a planetary scale surveillance society.
